On June 14, 1945 the Seventh Naval Construction Battalion (Seabee's) began construction of a seaplane base on Katchin Hanto (Katsuren Peninsula). These photos date from that period and show the seaplane base before and after Typhoon Louise, a super-typhoon, which hit Okinawa on 9 Oct 1945 and caused major damage to most of the military installations on Okinawa. I have included copies of the notes on the back of the photos, many photos have no information on them, but these show some of the thoughts of the man who lived these memories.
