On 9 October 1945 super typhoon Louise hit Okinawa and destroyed 90% of the military structures on Okinawa and beached and sunk a large number of ships. His photos show the damage to the camp and ships at Buckner Bay. Additional photos he bought on Okinawa showing other military scenes. On 14 June 1946 Cpl. Hetrick left Okinawa on board the USS Sea Cat bound for the United States and his discharge from the Army.
